I’m inspired to buy a set of chalks and paper and try this out! I love what you said about squinting us a paradox. Squinting is also used by stargazers to better see the light of stars. And when you search for them you also utilize your side vision to find heavenly bodies you would not notice by looking straight on.

What makes viewing stars possible through this method is all the stars except for the planets and sun and moon stay in the same parallax in relation to one another. They never move from that position. They all move together around Polestar or North Star. It’s called the pole star because the stars move around it. And the pole star stays in alignment with the magnetic North Pole There is no magnetic south pole. Everything is north.
