I've always liked Bouguereau and I don't care what anyone thinks of the French Academy of that time. One of my favorite paintings is L'Aurore, so beautiful and perfectly balanced like a floating ballerina on her toes.
The first thing that came to mine was some of the portrait work by Frans halz. I always felt like he managed to capture the truth of a persons humanity extremely well. I love this Vermeer, too.
