This is a fabulous update, I am overjoyed at all your successes. Congrats on finishing Atlas (beautiful!!!! ) and finding the right tone for your book, rearranging your website, and on selling several pieces— all of which are absolutely gorgeous. I’m so glad for you; cheers to the next painting (the sketch is wonderful!) and to continued success!
When I draw, it feels like my feet are burrowed deep into the salt of the earth, while my mind and spirit have wings—like a giant eagle, soaring through the universe and pulling the earth along for the journey.
Whoah. Yes. Me too. Thank you for bringing words to the sublimity of drawing.
I use a technique that I developed on my own, and I have not read about it elsewhere, though I first observed it in technique in Michelangelo's drawings. I imagine my thumb massaging the form, whatever direction my thumb would naturally go I mimic with my pen or pencil. This results in the down and up forms along the surface of paper, as if it is not flat but a real form. I pretty much mastered it, as if I steer one line mark wrong (out of thousands) I immediately feel like it kills the drawing. Get the first line moving over the form correctly then it is smooth sailing with effortless freedom. I imagine it is something like singing on pitch, get the first note zeroed in then the rest is magic.
Elbows. Very difficult to sculpt or draw. Odd landscape on the body. Yours are beautiful Michael. Congratulations on the figurative sale. em
Thank you very much Elizabeth!

I am amazed by the detail you captured in drawing arms. They look 3-D! Thank you Michael!
