Charlotte, I have a feeling that if I were a magician I would take it to the grave. Maria Callas gave a fantastic master class at Julliard, we are lucking to have it recorded, 9 hours. Each point she made seemed obvious, but when you add up the points, it seems magical and super human. One point she made, a singer didn't think about the lyrics she was singing--it drove Callas nuts. This woman was singing with a smile on her face but the song was tragic, where she was going to commit suicide or her husband died. Callas kept saying "quit smiling!" : ) )) But then very calmly and gently Callas assigned the singer to take the lyrics home and read them 25 or however many times needed to fully understand the meaning. Once the singer got the meaning, she didn't need to worry about interpretation. But it is interesting why wouldn't an artist hold on to their secrets. There are a lot of artists that don't want to know anything about technique, thinking it will kill their individuality, the same for some collectors that love a piece, they don't want to hear the artist explain it or a critic criticize it. I just never felt that way, for me it is the technology of the soul. But you often talk about psycho-physio-illusion, so cool, and it is so similar.
