Newberry, Sunset over San Jacinto Mountains, pastel
Today's edit
Tension is running very high with political and cultural conflict -- instead of that letting me down, I focus on creating the best I can do today and make it as beautiful as I can. It is not avoidance. But I have the ability to add something positive to culture. It is my way a life, complaining or whining is a dead end psychologically, mentally, and the ability to let go and be in the creative moment, living it fully.
Pastel is tricky, this was done on dark brown paper, not sanded, which means I can only go 15 or 20 layers to get the brightest light. After that the pastel no longer takes -- it helps knowing that in advance.
Metaphysically, the nature of the world, it interesting that sunsets create a spiritual feeling, yet it is a normal everyday occurrence. Perhaps it is intense glowing light gives us a feeling of spirit transcending, of disappearing into the light? Isn't that cool that we can get this feeling from both nature and art?
