Figurative Pastels: A Few Experiments
What happens when consecutive figure drawings are overlaid on one page
Drawing overlays has a long history, over 35,000! Beginning with historic cave paintings/drawings overlapping animals and human figures. Perhaps the most famous is the Horse Heads. And they often show up in sketchbooks of artists like Michelangelo, he was simply working out visual problems and limited paper space. I thought a riff on that would be fun but with intention rather than for a lack of paper or space.

I would have a 3 hour model session and the model would take a few poses or more that I would draw one on top of the other. Here are some of the results.
This morning I uploaded Figurative Pastels to my site, Newberry Art Inventory: https://www.newberryartinventory.com/home/figurative-pastels
Wow. Psychedelic and surprising. These are cool!
Love the bottom one. This looks so clever!
